im tired of vegans like i 100% agree with the need to reduce our meat consumption bc it's a) environmentally unsustainable b) an industry rife with animal and human rights abuses and c) unhealthy and d) economically unsound BUT

the condescension and inability to understand the complexity of the topic shows me they have a complete lack of critical understanding of politics and economics

Plus the insistence of complete meat eradication without considering cultural factors, food sovereignty and Indigenous ways of consuming (e.g. the Honourable Harvest or Caring for Country) just reeks of Western supremacy

Not to mention the ableism (& classism) that goes into assuming everyone has the ability to access and prepare fresh healthy food and get all their nutrients from vegan sources. Like some ppl can't absorb iron from vegetables.

this is a huge complicated topic but what's required, like everything, isn't just individual change, but a systemic overhaul. Capitalism is the system that allows the mass slaughter of animals for no reason other than profit. Take your anger out on governments, not individuals

yes this thread is me ranting because vegans on Instagram make me want to throw my phone out the window. If I see one more vegan on Greta Thunberg's photos saying "going vegan is the best thing you can do for climate change" I'm going to scream
