The dehumanization of homeless people by residents, politicians, business owners is reprehensible. The most disgusting display of this is from those who fake being progressive. Dehumanization is harmful, it’s hateful. Ppl who use drugs who are homeless are incredibly dehumanized
Dehumanizing homeless ppl who use drugs - blaming their homelessness on drug use or mental health & not on the housing crisis &capitalism creates a chasm that makes it easier for those in “power” like @kristynwongtam to never visit an encampment or express urgency for basic aid
Instead by dehumanizing a homeless drug user, politicians like @kristynwongtam offer what she perceives as “solutions” which only seek to dehumanize people further. She doesn’t speak to them, doesn’t ask them what they need. What she does is harmful. It’s classist and prejudice
She represents a riding with a high concentration of homelessness, and one that has let developers run rampent, pushing ppl out of their homes on to the streets. Displacement is a root cause, not ones mental health or substance use which are exacerbated by the lack of housing.
So before you speak @kristynwongtam to the solutions needed for people who are homeless, especially those who use drugs, try talking to them. Go pay a visit and actually listen to people. And enough with your dehumanizing “eblasts”.
Dehumanization of people who are homeless who use drugs can lead to death. It can make people feel so pushed out of society, that they don’t want to be here. Words and action have power. The constant hate talking of homeless ppl devalues people.
I’m angry, because everyday I bare witness to groups of people who are materially deprived and who are being vilified, scapegoated, harrassed, suffer and DIE. And it’s growing worse by the minute. Ppl need to think how their words and actions or lack there of are contributing
... tents went up in March and not a single councillor in this City has gone to visit an encampment. Think about that for a minute... as long as I’ve lived here, I’ve never seen anything like this, I’m sure you haven’t either... and they can’t even go and witness it themselves.
