Commissioners please learn that it’s totally okay to say “Sorry but that’s out of my budget right now!” when given a quote.

Words CANNOT describe how frustrating it is to get ghosted, so you sit wondering if this job is gonna go through and wonder if you can rely on that income
Commissions are generally my main source of income.
To drop a quote for a $500+ job (which honestly isn’t even industry standard for price) gets my hopes up for that money to be put to good use so I can. You know. Live. To sit and wait for weeks only to give up on it, that bites
I’m not gonna get mad if you straight up say “I’m sorry that’s more than I expected, I can’t do that I’m afraid” unless you’re super rude about it.
Telling me upfront lets me move right on to the next job and not stress over setting aside time for something that might not happen
A good rule of thumb is that if you’re asking for a big job, STATE YOUR BUDGET!!!

If someone asks “hey how much to draw this?” I’m going to quote as if it were my best quality

If you say “I’d like this drawn, my budget is $$$$ what can you do?” I can adjust accordingly
I say this partially because I have a few emails that I have half I mind to prod about, but I have concerns that after weeks of silence, I’m going to be contacted about them WHILE I’M TRYING TO MOVE, which adds to the frustration of not knowing for sure if a job is a lost cause
And this doubles for waitlists too! If you’re on my waitlist but something comes up when I get round to you and you can’t afford it anymore, just tell me! I’ll move onto the next person and check back in with you later! There’ll be more opportunities!
