a question for anyone in the US, do you think the death penalty should exist? I'm going to drop my personal opinion in a reply under this, this might be a little deep for the tl but I just saw an article that made me want to speak on it
while there are some crimes that are horrendous enough to make the argument that there's no chance for rehabilitation, I feel super uneasy with the idea of anyone's life being taken over the decisions of a court. our justice system has been proven to make mistakes from time to
time, and there have been cases before where someone has been put to death and then later it was found out via dna analysis or other evidence that they were innocent. this article goes into the statistics a little bit: https://www.google.com/amp/s/time.com/79572/more-innocent-people-on-death-row-than-estimated-study/%3famp=true
I say all that to say this, human beings are not infallible and I don't think we should have the power/precedent of taking someone's life away knowing that there is even a miniscule chance that they were wrongfully convicted, even if there is "no chance of rehabilitation"
