The Oakland Athletics : Create a "Glenn Burke Day" at the Oakland A's to honor a Black LGBTQ+ sports icon - Sign the Petition! http://chng.it/KffzW8nS via @Change
Do you know #GlennBurke? Here's why you should:
#GlennBurke invented the high-five with Dusty Baker on October 2, 1977 as a baseball player on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Think about all the iconic sports moments we would not have if not for the high-five!

Think about all the iconic sports moments we would not have if not for the high-five!
#GlennBurke was the first athlete of a major American sport to come out as gay. He is the first openly gay MLB player.

#GlennBurke grew up on 62nd Street on the border of Berkeley and Oakland, attending Berkeley High and played for the Oakland Athletics for two seasons.

To honor, elevate, and celebrate his story, letâs institute a âGlenn Burke Dayâ on the 2021 Oakland @Athletics gameday schedule and beyond.
Not only will this help change the culture of homophobia in the MLB and sports, but we can use this opportunity to highlight a Black-founded organization, the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center.
Whether you're an A's fan, a sports enthusiast who believes we can continue to bring more equity and representation to the major leagues, or an LGBTQ+ advocate, your support of this petition would be greatly appreciated. #GlennBurke https://www.change.org/p/the-oakland-athletics-create-a-glenn-burke-day-at-the-oakland-a-s-to-honor-a-black-lgbtq-sports-icon?fbclid=IwAR1WYTvZE6prvL3SURT55eMiaAfpWfB3YFgKyx2dY-B16elpkjhxEWfXJBo
UPDATE: over 430 supporters in 4 days! Iâm so humbled by the support and encouragement from Aâs fans, Bay Area natives, LGBTQ advocates, and sports enthusiasts alike. Letâs keep it going. #GlennBurke
Although baseball isnât my favorite sport, itâs always been a part of my life. My Granmargie worked for the Atlanta Braves in her retirement for 20 years because she loved the game so much. I wanted to honor her memory + elevate the voice of a queer Black athlete I see myself in
I also wanted to highlight the great work of a local organization that supports Black and brown queer folk every day, The Oakland LGBTQ Community Center. #GlennBurke https://www.oaklandlgbtqcenter.org/
Right now, weâd like to keep the momentum going and get as many signatures as possible as we gain the attention of the Aâs organization.Â
Hereâs how you can help:
Can you forward this petition to 3 friends whoâd be interested in signing?
