Before I begin, it's important to understand Reeves' approach to originality. It will be relevant throughout the thread.

➀ Matt Reeves confirms 'Ego' influence in #TheBatman

Later, he also teases what to expect from Battinson:

An exploration of how trauma causes unhealthy compulsion & obsession for criminology. This will be the core of Batman's "split personality" arc.

The concept of this Batman's rage and obsession will not only be shown through his actions and dialogue.

It will also be shown aesthetically by his self-made costume, which is very practical and heavily equipped for fights & detective work. (1/2)

Bruce's disguised voice and the subtle, skull-like expression of his mask indicate how obsessed and experimental he is, too.

It's all about personifying his inner pain & rage. This personified shadow-self, which is Batman, will be feared and seen as a myth by the public. (2/2)
The iconic "I'm vengeance" fight scene is an example of Batman's efforts to establish fear & myth.

Notice the before and after reactions! Also notice that Batman is comfortable with being recorded by a phone screen in the dark. He wants the footage to spread across the streets.
➀ Side-note: In the above image, we see Elliot Warren as the leader of a low-class "sewer gang" group. You'll notice that part of his ear is missing. This may be a significant scar?
➀ Now on to the plot of #TheBatman...

Keeping in mind what I've addressed about this younger, tormented and morally gray version of Bruce, we can better understand what kind of arc he will have as he navigates and confronts the conspiracy in Gotham City. (1/3)
"The price for your blind eye"

Vengeance & orphanage can be key themes in #TheBatman. Bruce could parallel Riddler: Maybe they're both angry children who had their innocence ripped away so soon and so suddenly.

Mattson Tomlin was also an orphan. (2/3)

"How am I a part of this?"

While it's very very possible that Bruce's family had direct involvement with the corruption in Gotham, I think it's alternatively possible that Riddler is blaming them for being bystanders.

This makes Batman and Riddler even more connected. (3/4)
Selina Kyle can parallel Batman's vengeance, too.

As allies, they may both go through empowering transformations as the plot progresses in #TheBatman

But towards the end, Selina may kill the person that she is after, fully giving in to her shadow-self, opposite to Bruce. (4/4)
➀ Matt Reeves talks classic noirs that influenced his movie

He made comparisons to Chinatown (mystery plot with corruption) and Taxi Driver (character study). There are other films/books that inform the story, style, setting, and realism of #TheBatman.

➀ More elaboration on the style, setting and realism

#TheBatman's world building will mix gothic and modern elements to create a moody, timeless, and other-worldy (yet grounded) vibe.

The movie Se7en is one good comparison to this. (1/3)

In fact, Matt Reeves revealed that he developed the specific world-building of his movie while he wrote the script.

This shows how essential the world & costumes are to these versions of the characters, as well as the real-world themes that're a part of their story. (2/3)

➀ Last but not least: Matt Reeves confirms my theory about the #HBOMax GCPD Series

There's nothing to analyze here. It's self explanatory, but it had to be included in the thread!

The approach to Reeves' #TheBatman universe is very fresh.
