I am not a Welsh nationalist or someone who speaks Welsh day to day. But please please please people who live in England, remember we have our own language, culture, government, legislation and health & social care system etc etc. What happens in England does not = Wales.
We have our own language & legislation to protect that language https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1993/38/contents.
Why did we need legislation to protect our language? Because it was banned by English governments. Children were punished in schools if they spoke Welsh & had to wear the ‘Welsh Not’
This was an act of stigmatisation and persecution and you can read about it more here

Wales has its own NHS!

We did not get the reforms England had in 2012 because the NHS has been devolved to the Welsh Government since devolution!

We dont have IAPT either!

We have our own Mental Health Legislation in addition to the Mental Health Act. Its called

The Mental Health (Wales) Measure (2010)

You can read about it here

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/mwa/2010/7/contents
Guess what! We dont have the Care Act in Wales.

Why?

Because social care is devolved to the Welsh Government.

We have the Social Services and Wellbeing Act (Wales) (2014)

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/anaw/2014/4/contents
Today, we still remember this act through the #cofiwchdryweryn campaign.

The T in Tryweryn mutates to a D Dryweryn in the Welsh language
We have the coolest flag in the WORLD.

More Welsh facts tomorrow!
Everyone with a GP in Wales recieves free prescriptions - No one pays for them!

Why?

Because the Welsh Government controls and legislates health in Wales. https://gov.wales/free-prescriptions
Did you know that NICE guidelines do not apply in Wales?

Well they dont!

Most practitioners use them, but in Wales adherence to them is not mandatory. We do not have an equivalent to NICE guidelines in Wales.
In Wales, mental health & physical health services are run and managed by the same Health Board. We do not have ‘Trusts’ like England, we have Health Boards. We have 7 regional Heath Boards in Wales in addition to the Welsh Ambulance Service, Velindre & Public Health Wales.
Wales has its own Health and Social Care Research organisation, which conducts the majority of what the NIHR does in England. It is called Health and Care Research Wales @ResearchWales

Did you know that we have no motorway or railway directly linking north & south Wales?

Instead we have country roads. It takes around 5 hours to travel by car from Cardiff our Capital City to Holyhead on Anglesey.

This time of night 12.19 AM, it takes 4hrs 27mins.
By train, its no better - we have to leave Wales and travel through England to get to Holyhead from Cardiff.
In 1966 the community of Aberfan was devastated by a deadly coal tip collapse.

116 children were killed as a school was hit first. 28 adults died.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, a fund was set up to aid the Aberfan community.

The UK government forced the community to pay 150k (in 1966) for the clean up operation, from the fund. BUT the National Coal Board (a UK nationalised body) was responsible for the disaster.
The community had to wait 31 years before the UK government recognised the injustice and returned the money to the Aberfan disaster fund.
