This week on @heartoslay, Tressie and I had one of hte most important conversations we've ever had about the importance of intellectual property. We spoke with @bmluse and @eeddings of @thenodshow and nearly LOST IT, when we found out they don't own their IP.
And y'all read your contracts. Read the image releases. Read all of it. Ask questions. Understand the rights they are asking for, the length of time they wan those rights for, what they can do with those rights.
I drive lawyers crazy. I never sign standard image releases. No you can't use my image forever. No you can't use it in any format that will ever be invented. No you can't air your lil show without my seeing how you use my image. Do I get on people's nerves? Yes. Do I care? No.
Say no to anything you don't want to agree to. And never give up your copyright. You can share it but you can't surrender it to work for hire. It is more valuable to you than the money. The end.
