Seeing tweets seeking/giving advice about starting law school so here’s mine: the rumours of your classmates’ jerkiness may be exaggerated. Before law school I heard stories of people hiding needed books on the wrong library shelves, refusing to share notes, competing viciously..
I didn’t experience any of that (as far as I know!). My straight-A classmates generously gave me tips, people shared notes if I missed a class, I got whispered advice as I passed people going to interviews- I offered my ‘competition’ granola bars. Are some law students jerks? Yes
But mostly I found friends -or at least colleagues- just trying to make it through a demanding program and into a good job, maybe one that helps people. Be that generous person and you may just find those generous people. #1L #LawSchool
I did however experience some culture shock moving from a rural middle and working class community in Nova Scotia to law school in the city, which I was not prepared for. There is classism and other isms that I don’t want to belittle that play into that jerky reputation.
