Today, we learned even more disturbing news about Utah’s 4th Congressional District candidate @BurgessOwens. To date, we know the following about Mr. Burgess (multiple tweets to follow):
@BurgessOwens has filed bankruptcy not once, not twice, but at least 3 times since the 1990s. He has asked US Federal courts to discharge nearly $2m in debts—debts he accrued & promised to pay to others, but then sought to have wiped away. Alone, this is forgivable. #utpol
@BurgessOwens sought, on a technicality in court, to basically have his mortgage thrown out because his wife didn’t sign a piece of paper. While we’d all love a windfall like that, it really isn’t particularly honest, is it? #utpol
@BurgessOwens once sued the @NFL for irreparable brain damage as a result of playing football. Then, when he lost the lawsuit, he admitted that he never really had brain damage. NOT forgivable given how many football players have suffered as a result of their sport. #utpol
@BurgessOwens once went on a QAnon show—a show that openly espouses conspiracy theories such as the idea that #Trump is single-handedly preventing Satan-worshiping (literally, not figuratively) Democrats from engaging in their favorite past time: sex-trafficking. #utpol
@BurgessOwens has sought money from QAnon, has claimed to be “part of the [QAnon] team, baby!,” & has congratulated known racists such as a candidate in the South who checked off a “bucket list” item when he visited Hitler’s “Eagle’s Nest”. #utpol
@BurgessOwens raised money for “alleged” fraudster Steve Bannon by participating in a “Wall-A-Thon.” Owens helped Bannon raise $25m that was supposed to go towards #Trump’s beloved Mexican boarder wall; it apparently “supplemented” Bannon’s income instead. #utpol
@BurgessOwens is now accused of plagiarizing not parts, but most of his 2018 book on why he’d NEVER take a knee for those killed by violence. Apparently, his unwavering integrity does not extend to stealing the words of other writers. #utpol
I believe in forgiving and forgetting, but @BurgessOwens’ cumulative life choices show a penchance for dishonesty & a wheeler-dealer like approach to life that is an inappropriate example for our children & seriously borders on charlatanism. #utpol
