Since we are discussing voting records, let’s examine 3 big votes in Senator Markey’s career.

First off, his vote for the War in Iraq. (1/n) https://twitter.com/aaronnarraph/status/1298086736854016000
In 2003, Markey broke with 2/3rds of the Democratic Caucus to vote for the authorization to invade Iraq.

Estimates place the civilian death toll of the War in Iraq and subsequent civil war between 151,000 and 460,000. (2/n)
Next up, we have his vote against the Green New Deal.

On February 7th, 2019. Markey sponsored a resolution in support of the Green New Deal. A powerful statement of his principles. (3/n)
Unfortunately, when presented with a vote on the resolution a mere six days later, Markey refused to vote for the legislation.

Ed Markey must’ve lost his principles somewhere between the 7th and the 13th. (4/n)
Lastly, Markey has had some past votes on immigration and criminal justice that he’d prefer to leave in the past.

Not only did Markey vote for the 1994 Crime Bill, he supported Republicans in an effort to preserve funding for ICE in 2013. (5/n)
As is common with the Senator, he’s been running away from this position.

Perhaps Massachusetts doesn’t need another Senator who was for the Iraq War and the Crime Bill before he was against it. (n/n)
