1/

@LISACommunity I am so disappointed

I was drawn to this science as an undergrad, read the papers in grad school, put in the work as a postdoc with the NASA LISA Study team.

Thought critically about how we collaborate & figure out the future of space-based GW astrophysics https://twitter.com/LISACommunity/status/1298262141397426179
2/ I put in the work to try to have conversations about how we, as a leading international scientific collaboration, have an ethical obligation to do better.

That we need to be responsive to what is happening in the world and things that affect our community of scientists
3/ I "served" on your "diversity" committee. I gave you feedback. I advocated on behalf of the voiceless and most vulnerable.

I gave tangible feedback on how to improve this entire consortium. I gave you suggestions on speakers, where to start learning.

You ignored me.
4/ You told me it was impossible. You did nothing to demonstrate you are invested in holding yourselves accountable. To truly do better.

I quit your committee because of how painful it was. How much energy it sucked out of my life.

For what? I also want to "just do science".
5/ I had a conversation with the LISA executive committee in hopes that you would really start to do the work. To start to fundamentally shift what is happening.

đŸ€ŻThen you create this, *this* video about the conference.

You can't be serious
6/ You clearly heard nothing that I said in the last forever.

People are dying in a global pandemic. You frame this as woopsies we are not traveling.

It is ironic that the last thing you posted about is how you were participating in #ShutDownSTEM and claim to be "invested".
7/ Yes, I co-led #ShutDownSTEM and I can not believe that I needed to convince you all to participate in an event which was literally one day to do your homework & come up with a plan.

What was the plan? Make this video with a Black woman in the video as a diversity expert.
8/ Seriously @LISACommunity - Do better. Learn *how* to listen. Read the stories of others besides yourselves. Do your homework.

Make time to REGULARLY have conversations about equity & inclusion. Access. Racism. Sexism. Ableism. Not just when you feel like.
9/ We can do this. It is possible.

You can do badass top-notch science AND a be compassionate human.

You can create scientific spaces that ensure that people can engage with one another in truly respectful manners

I look forward to seeing evidence in this actual investment
