Golden song analysis; ~a thread~

warning: this is a very Iarry thread so, if you don't want to read about that, leave now :)

ok i'm gonna put a few random bits and then i'll get onto lyrics specifically (i'm also not going to add any obvious lyrics like 'golden, as i open my eyes' as they're talked about a lot and only really have one interpretation)

the sun metaphor - whoever H is singing about clearly shines bright, however this metaphor could also imply that this person is trapped. like the sun in the solar system, they are trapped in the middle of everything with lots going on around them that they have no control over

H says 'golden' 28 times in the bridge... do with that what u wish...

throughout the song, H says 'golden' as though its some sort of nickname ('Loving you's the antidote, golden'), which could relate to the sun metaphor and possibly the nickname L gave him. If you look at it in this way, the repeated line 'You're so golden' (to me) seems+

+as though H can't find the words to describe this person (i imagine him saying 'you're so... *possible sigh*...golden'), so golden is th perfect descriptor for L. shiny, rare, worth millions, soft, its L. 'Golden' can also mean 'well behaved' in some contexts, so it could be H+

+saying that L is the golden boy for management so that H can get away with more (ie. no long term stunts, he can wear pretty much what he wants, etc.)

Lyrics:

'Take me back to the light' - L is dimming and getting sadder? or maybe H misses being more open about their relationship, so he wants to be back 'in the light' (in the public eye?)

'I'm hopeless, broken'...'I know you were way too bright for me' - H doesn't think he's good enough for L/L is too good to him.

'Wait for me in the sky' - L is trapped in the sky but H has been let free? maybe H wants to go back to help L, so is telling him to wait for him so he can help? (idk if that makes sense)

the following lines are often written down as seperate lines, but I think that they're supposed to be read/sung/heard as full sentences: 'I don't wanna be alone / when it ends' 'don't wanna let you know / i don't wanna be alone' - H is saying he doesn't want to be free without+

+L, but he doesn't want L to know, possibly because he doesn't want L to feel like a burden, or maybe because he doesn't want to seem weak.

'I know that you're scared because hearts get broken' - L is scared to love openly incase of another breakup OR L doesn't want H to be with him because management is against it and he doesn't want H to be broken in the way that they broke him, so he thinks they're safer apart?

'I can feel you take control / of who I am and all I've ever known' - L taking control of the management situation so H is safe (has always has since he's older). This would mean pulling long-term stunts, signing contracts that limit his behaviour, etc. so that H doesn't have to.

'Loving you's the antidote' - could link to 'give me some morphine' and 'just take the pain away' in mmith (L has always protected H and now they're not together 24/7 H isn't as safe and he's scared/can't handle it) OR it could link to 'cause there's no antidote / for this+

+curse' in esny (the curse being anger, grief, sadness, etc. as esny isn't a Iarry song). L is always his medicine (*wink wink*) for when H feels down.

'I'm out of my head' - H can't control anything? not in his head as in he doesn't feel like he's a direct participant in anything and possibly that he feels like a spectator in his own life? or maybe he can't think straight because he's overwhelmed without L?

Unreleased lyrics:

'He's golden, he's broken, and I'm hoping, someday you could be open, I know that you're scared because I'm so open' - H thinks that L being free with him will fix any problems they maybe be having (H is made ignorant by his love throughout the song tbh)+

+but L is intimidated by H's openness since he isn't used to it. H still thinks L is the sun in spite of everything.
