We have been doing all that we can at the AUX to support artists, but it is becoming increasingly important to name that the music industry is in crisis. The preceding inequalities that existed in the music industry have been further exacerbated by the conditions of Covid-19.
Streaming royalties are still priced at pennies, freelancers are still under-compensated, and many signed artists are locked in exploitative contracts. Rising unemployment, canceled tours, and limited opportunities for lucrative live-streaming have compounded these issues.
It is critical that we build awareness around the dearth of resources and support for artists during this really tough time. Please share this thread widely and join us as we continue to invest in Black creative dreams.
