What's interesting about the @AOC thread on media.
1. This is something everyone in media already knows. We're like smokers who know it's bad for our health, but can't kick the habit.

2. I wrote about this as 2014 "When Truth and Fact Collide" http://blog.digidave.org/2014/12/when-truth-and-fact-collide-which-side-do-you-take
Something more controversial to say. While @AOC is 1.54 million times more articulate (I calculated), when people on the right talk about "fake news" - this is what they're trying to say.
This thread goes as far back as Noam Chomsky in 1988 "manufacturing consent." And if you bring up concepts of the mainstream media being used to manipulate ala Chomsky, you appear smart. You are praised for being skeptical, understanding the powers that be, etc.
Again, I think the critique that comes from the right lacks nuance and is prone to hyperbole "enemy of the people." But at the same time; what was Chomsky's point in Manufacturing Consent? The media had interests against the majority of the populace. They were "fake news."
Back to @AOC. I think her ability to break the 4th wall here is superior to most other politicians. But her critique shouldn't be confused for more partisan one upmanship.
