A common piece of advice for founders that I disagree with is: "You need an idea you're passionate enough about to work on for 10 years."

First of all, calm down. 😂
Second, this is exactly the kind of subtle confidence testing/confidence draining statement that is yet another "Maybe you're intrinsically not cut out for this" message that stops people of color and women from starting companies.
Third, feelings are temporary! You will feel like a failure sometimes and like a rockstar other times, whether or not you start a company. You don't know how you'll feel in ten years, and it's impossible to know.
You need to want to be a leader, to want to learn, and to be excited for what you don't know yet.

In fact I think being overcommitted to a specific idea/implementation has some big downsides.
Don't be too hard on yourself. (Thank you for coming to my TED talk.)
