(1) I’ve just come to the realisation that out of my entire school, I can count the number of male staff members on one hand. Two of those are teachers, another two our caretakers and lastly, our headteacher.
(2) I’d love to know people’s thoughts on why men are so under-represented in primary classrooms and what problems you think can arise from this. Just 15% of primary teachers are men.
(3) When I joined Teach First I initially wanted to teach History at secondary level. The only thing that put me off primary initially was the fact I wouldn’t be teaching just history. I’m so thankful I went into primary, but I wonder if anything does put men off?
(4) and if so, what can we do to encourage more men to jump into the primary classroom?
