As an education agent who work mostly for universities in Turkey and North Cyprus, it is only right that I address the issue that was raised yesterday.
I saw and received the link to the story going around coupled with questions from family, parents and friends. I understand the concern of everyone and I do sympathize with those affected.
Before anything, deeming Khalil’s death as a suicide by officials when there are many questionable factors surrounding it was careless, callous and lazy investigation. They ought to have done their job and get to the bottom of whatever happened.
The pain of loosing a loved one is unlike any other and for officials to show little effort into finding out the cause of death is like I said, vacuous.
I try to maintain a good relationship between the students I am responsible for, they are more like my brothers. Here and there I do check up on them to see how they are faring with school and their everyday life.
I keep my doors open that years after some of these people still come to me for advice or the likeness but I can only do so much as an education agent. I can only do this for students I’m older than, I can’t really baby sit adults.. it’s impossible.
Some people come here and a semester later they are already on drugs, some people even start dealing and selling drugs just a few months abroad and this is not just in Cyprus but almost everywhere.
Many parents are aware their kids are on drugs but still send them abroad as an act of rehabilitation perhaps. There’s literally nothing you can do when a guy starts wilding on drugs except report the person to his parents.. and by doing I am even endangering myself.
We are all adults and we are responsible for our every action. It’s not possible to baby sit adults and make their life choices for them.
I am saddened by the death of Ibrahim and utterly disappointed with the way the officials handle it.
May Jannah be his final abode and may his family find the strength to bear his loss.
