Nigeria is the place where bad ideas not only flourish, but they are parroted so often that they begin to drive government policy and public reaction alike. It's why you see the reactions to DSTV price increases and why you have an NBC Code targeted at them.
Its why you had a minister publicly supporting a company like TSTV at the time. Further back, its why they split the EPL license of Nigeria from rest of Africa and made it more expensive for everyone. It's why your reps jump dramatically when DSTV increases price
It's why you find people abusing DSTV for price increases. Because, somehow, the bad idea that premium content paid for by a private company is a public good has taken root and proliferated both the government and people of Nigeria.
Like I always say, as long as it's not price gouging, private companies that provide non-essential services have the right to increase prices as they deem necessary. Your prerogative as a consumer is to stop paying. But Nigeria must Nigerianate.
