What’s amazing to me is that people can’t draw a clear line between the lack of accountability and the continual murder of unarmed black people by police. If there are no consequences for killing black people, what is there to stop them...? Nothing. EXACTLY.
The years of systemic racism that leads to these murders is enough to contend with, but that’s not all. The murderers are never brought to justice. It has been 165 days since #BreonnaTaylor was murdered. No arrests.
It has been over a year since #ElijahMcClain was murdered. No arrests. We can no longer abide the “hand of justice” moving swiftly to shuffle black bodies through the criminal justice system, but somehow grinding to a halt to exact the same justice on our killers.
***ESPECIALLY*** when several of these murders are recorded, and circulate on the internet for mass consumption and we have now normalized the viewing of lynchings on social media and on the news. We are SICK OF IT.
So to everyone who has so many opinions about HOW we are supposed to demand justice. SAVE IT. You lack the experience and the generational trauma to dare open your mouth and instruct black people as to how we should seek liberation.
You should abhor the system that allows for black people to be lawlessly gunned down by police more than you take issue with a riot. And if you value some windows more than a black life, well...you probably would’ve preferred segregated pools. I’ll put it like that. 😎
WE WANT JUSTICE.
WE’RE TIRED OF WAITING.
That’s all I got for today.
In the meantime read up on #Nixthe6 and why police unions are mad problematic. #BlackLivesMatter
