There is a reason Big Brother Canada and I are aiming for at least 50% BIPOC on our next cast. BB is a numbers game. If we want every player to have the same chance to succeed, we must evolve past the idea that minorities in the country must remain minorities in the house. THREAD
Levelling the playing field is critical to making sure that Reality TV can move into the future as an entertainment medium, and not be left behind as a relic that upholds the status quo. This is why we are changing the odds that have legitimately frustrated so many Reality fans.
Moving forward takes the guts to lead - and I am thankful that our Showrunner Erin Brock and our team at Big Brother Canada understand what is at stake, that this is bigger than just entertaining TV. This is about who we are, and who we choose to be.
@BigBrotherCA is a show for EVERYONE. So we need casts and production teams that not only reflect the richness of Canadian diversity, but will also push the conversation forward. The interest already shown by Canadians who have never auditioned before, or stopped trying- is huge.
For the record, I’m not worried in the least about delivering on this casting intention. Black, Indigenous, People of Colour and the LGBTQ+ community are a beautiful part of the flavour of Canada and already a massive part of the legacy of our show. So let’s go even further!
