Don’t laugh. I think campaign should trot out an old pic of Biden duck hunting or something. Among many rural WI independent friends who are hunters but not NRA gun nuts, all but 2 truly believe 100% that Joe wld literally confiscate all firearms. A pic would be worth 1K words.
These people don’t want to vote for Trmp—and they may not—but they are afraid to support Biden bc if he wins they’ll be cut off from one of the more meaningful aspects of their family life. Two have confided in me, like, “I like Biden if only he would let us keep our guns...”
Many responses here are reinforcing the very problem I’m trying to address. We need to get beyond incredulity and outrage that “these people” believe what they believe.
We need to get beyond assuming a verbal argument will win hearts and minds.
We need to establish TRUST.

I’m also seeing a lot of nitty gritty about what guns should and shouldn’t be allowed. To begin that discussion properly, we need all stakeholders at the table.
Look, a lot of my left friends WOULD just as soon ban all guns if they could. They would allow all abortions, too. People on the right pick up on these sentiments—accurately. They need to feel they are valued, even as positions diverge. Would u go to a party where no one wants u?
Don’t assume that all the rural voter friends I’m talking about here are white. They are not. This is not always about racism. These folks are truly scared someone will take their guns. They don’t like trump, but they like hunting and their way of life. They want reassurance.
*i meant that they are not -all- white. Most are white.
