Admittedly, JLP manifesto is much more thought out the PNP’s. Like the PNP however, they seem to forget some existing policies and legislation that they themselves have started. For example, the green paper on National Health Insurance - should’ve been positioned as continuity.
Like the restorative justice pieces and ADR proposals. The promised Human Rights Commission that the same government did absolutely nothing around is listed AGAIN without acknowledging that piece.
Today is August 25th so the manifesto promising opening of shelters for August 2020 perhaps should’ve been August 2021?? 👀
The social protection pieces are encouraging. NIS needs an overhaul from long time. Pension and other benefits elude so many of our vulnerable groups.
I think both parties lack an understanding on climate change and agribusiness market chain/linkages. Broad statements which lack strategic direction evident in both documents 😞
JLP missed an opportunity to dismantle the PNP’s proposed access to housing and land through some of the same changes that they themselves have made. For example, reduced stamp duty, 100% financing for those who can afford, etc.
JLP seh “prohibit discrimination in schools and amend Educational Act...”. If a laugh a dead. Dem never know dem coulda do that before? Hiss mi damn teeth. That shouldn’t even reach inna document!
For education, much more needed for rural schools. They are often left behind. The challenges are multi-faceted & needs tresponse across social protection, psycho-Social support, increased parental involvement. I liked the digicel Parent Place initiative. Could be modeled.
Really enjoyed reading the family strengthening pieces. The National parenting commission is not maximizing its fully potential - needs more funding support and better integration perhaps? What’s their role in this proposal?
For the macro econ & finance pieces, I like the proposed legislative changes around consumer protection, customs act, etc -very encouraging. Some the areas for me, like agri support needs a broader scope for small & medium farmers to ensure integration with existing institutions.
JLP promising remote working and reel-working modalities - all for that 😆. Loving the proposed financial advice centers as mi need fi rich by 2025.
Because of how document is segmented, I missed some of the agricultural pieces so some criticism is retracted. Loving the piece around RADA’s role, Expansion of the Agroparks, storage and distribution efforts, etc. hoping the ACTUALLY implement. Market linkage still needs work
Don’t know much around manufacturing but it seem scanty and lacking in any real strategic outcome anyway. Pffttt!
So much more to analyze in JLP’s manifesto - good, bad and wheel & come again across sectoral areas. Overall, good document. I actually see the policy research in this 😉
