a serious thread: body image
a heavy topic to discuss, but as a person who hated (at times hates) her own body, i always appreciated every single one of these posts. if this post can help at least one person feel even the tiniest bit better about themselves, then it’s worth it
everyday we might unconsciously compare ourselves to others, and i think this is a no brainer especially in the kpop industry where all our idols seem to have this “ideal” body image. speaking from personal experience: it makes you notice more imperfections about yourself
the doubt, anxiety, dieting, starving, etc are all possible outcomes to this unhealthy mindset we develop when constantly looking at our idols, and it’s something that might not be easy to talk about or accept
2 years ago, i couldn’t accept the fact that i was comparing myself to my favorite idols until i realized i had starved myself for nearly a week and had kept it hidden from my friends and family. When people face internal issues it’s not something we are willing to show to others
i wanted to talk about this unwillingness to accept the issues you may have inside because improvement and self love won’t come unless you realize and then from there take change
it is very unlikely that the kpop industry will change its ways about the body images they promote, and even if they did, they aren’t the only community that are selling these images, but you don’t need a whole industry to change, all you need is self love
obviously easier said than done, but it doesn’t matter how long it takes, even if you never truly get there, just saying one nice thing about yourself a day no matter how horrid the day was is enough for a slow and steady start to self love
and sometimes people need support from others in order to find self love which is totally acceptable, the kpop industry may promote these harmful body images, but the majority of the k-pop community are so uplifting and kind that finding someone to truly listen to you isn’t hard
as a person who’s gone through this self hate, please know that there is at least one person (me!) who despite whatever body image you may have thinks you are amazing and beautiful💞
thank you for reading through this heavy thread but i hope you understand that you are incredible just the way you are even if you don’t know it yet 🥰
