City clearly have an elite RB in Kyle Walker with his pace, passing and his actual defensive ability. But he is aging now being 30,city are clearly aware to this since they’ve gone out and bought 3 RBs Yan Couto,Kluiverth Aguilar and the one this thread is looking at Issa Kabore.
Issa Kabore is a 19 year old RB from Burkina Faso who joined KV Mechelen in 2019. In just under a year he was bought by Man City for a fee of 4 mil and was loaned back for the 20/21 season to continue developing, even with a small sample size it’s clear he’s a big talent.
Kabore is used differently to Walker. Walker tucks inside as a midfielder due to his quality passing and to allow the two 8s to push forwards into the half spaces and providing cover for counters. Whereas Kabore is used high and wide to take advantage of his excellent crossing
This leads me onto his biggest strength, his crossing which is his main form of chance creation something he is very good at. Even though it’s a small sample size he’s totalling 2.6 chances created P90 and in 8 appearance he has managed 3 assists as well as being robbed of a few.
As well as being a big creative threat going forwards he is also excellent defensively especially in the tackle winning the majority of tackles he attempts. He is a very aggressive defender because, he has faith in his pace to be able to recover if he loses out in winning the ball
Passing wise he isn’t that accurate, having an overall success rate of 75% but, this is caveated by the fact he is playing nearly half of his passes forwards trying to break lines getting his team forwards. This will change under pep but he will like how forwards thinking he is.
He does like to dribble and does show good balance and agility but he sometimes tries to take people on when the opportunity isn’t really there, hence the low success rate. This will obviously improve as he gets older with more experience and gets better at picking his moments.
Due to the sheer difference in sample size between him and walker I don’t think it’d be all that fair to compare numbers between the two. So instead I’ll just compare him with Cancelo who has more minutes but still not a massive sample size making comparison slightly better.
From the sample size we have it shows Kabores defensive output is better and his tackling is better,he creates more chances P90 and gets into the opposition box more. But Cancelo is a more accurate passer, better dribbler and has better ball retention. Both are very fast as well
The difference in passing style is clear, Kabore is all about getting forwards quickly whether the pass is on or not. But, Cancelo will knock it about more which will be down to Pep since he’d rather wait for a player to commit and leave space rather than force it forwards.
