/ It amazes me how many followers women can get in an absurdly short amount of time just by posting some tease shots or a few lewds.
The equivalent does not exist for dudes.
The equivalent does not exist for dudes.
/ The attention, adoration, and drooling thirst has to have an overall broader impact on male/female interaction. This is unprecedented in history, if you think about it. Before the Internet a select few models or pornstars might have received similar attention. MIGHT.
/ Today any moderately attractive woman with a Social Media account can get that with a minimum of effort. And correspondingly, how many men are out there fawning all over them? What are the effects of this attention and adoration?
/ We look at this as normal today. When you see a cute girl with a year-old Insta account with 700,000 followers, it doesn't even raise an eyebrow. But go back even two decades ago, and this would be *unprecedented in human history*.
/ What are the downstream effects of this? Does it make it harder for men and women to bond, maybe? I don't know - I'm asking the question - but it seems to me that it might. Now a potential suitor must compete with 700,000 followers for her attentions.
/ Conversely, many of the followers will be yes men. If she says something wrong, or stupid (like any human will), she has 700,000 people validating her error, because the followers are largely thirsty and couldn't bring themselves to disagree with a cutie.
/ This could also have more blatantly negative effects. Milana Vayntrub released a video where she talked about how everyone called her a milk truck because of her excellent rack. This surely factors in, too. How does 700,000 thirsty dudes chanting "boobs" at her change things?
/ How does a dude, following a few dozen Internet cuties skew his vision about what is possible for him? Some dude with a crappy job, mildly overweight, socially stunted - part of his brain might think that these Internet girls are better than a frumpy - but loyal - real girl.
/ These are suppositions on my part, mind you. I don't know and can't articulate all of the possible downstream effects, but again, I wish to reiterate: this is unprecedented in human history, and the changes are likely to be enormous. Few people appear to notice or care.
/ Yes. The entire dating paradigm has changed - but folks are still sitting around watching RomComs acting like the entire dating market hasn't been upended. https://twitter.com/thepiclord/status/1298266365099257862
/ Really good related thread. Captures some of the downstream effects quite well: https://twitter.com/Gitabushi/status/1291364593634246657
/ The unsolicited dick pics problem is an interesting one. I speculate that perhaps this occurs because lonely, single men would love unsolicited lewds from their favorite e-girls and make the mistake of thinking this street goes both ways. https://twitter.com/wendydarlingesq/status/1298270045806575616
/ Let's consider this in wide cultural terms, we have a political climate that treats men and women as the same. So a man sees women posting lewds and getting attention - is told everybody is the same - and thinks "then I can do that too, right?" https://twitter.com/wendydarlingesq/status/1298271775977947137
/ But the fact is, as @wendydarlingesq put it, nobody wants to see the dick pics. The fact that everybody wants to see boobs/vagina/whatever is not relevant. The street does not go both ways. Men (largely) cannot do what e-girls do on Social Media and get same result.
/ Yes, in this respect it must be very difficult for women, too. If you have 700,000 followers, and 30 potential suitors in your phone, and a cute coworker who makes a lot of money, and that one dude you met in the club...
