. Let me tell you my experience with the church and how God faithfully provided during my days in seminary.
Today is the first day of class for @BeesonDivinity students & it’s pouring rain from Marco. This reminds me of my first day of Beeson 15 yrs ago

When I moved to Bham from AR, I knew no one. The week I was moving in to my apartment in Bham, my college roommate met a Christian woman in Little Rock named Becky from Bham! My friend told her about me and gave her my phone number.
The night before my 1st day of seminary, Hurricane Katrina hit Bham and power was out all across the city. Becky called me and invited me to spend the night in their home since they had a generator. She wanted me to have a good night sleep before my 1st day of school.
Becky continued to check on me throughout the semester. I eventually joined her church! The night before my first day of finals in Dec., I was awoken to police banging on my door. My entire apartment building was on fire. Guess who came over at 4 am to be w/ me? Becky.
She & my friend Meredith from Beeson came. Becky brought me a coat from her closet to wear as I only had my pjs. A Christian firefighter brought me my laptop and Bible from my apartment. Every unit burned but mine. God protected me; the fire stopped at each unit surrounding mine.
Still I lost much due to water & smoke damage. Becky took me into her home and bought me clothes and toiletries. My classmates at Beeson turned a Christmas party into an opportunity to shower me with money and gift cards. These were POOR seminary students!
Becky continued to be a mentor, mother, and friend during the rest of my time at Beeson (even still today!). I knew I could call on her if I needed anything. Then God brought me another Becky near the end of my time as a student.
I needed a place to live and was poor. Becky #2 opened her home & gave me the guest room/bathroom rent free! She never asked for anything in return. She gave me food from their table, a place to wash my clothes, a bed to lie down at night, a home and family w/ nothing in return.
Every 1st day of seminary I become nostalgic as I remember God’s abundant faithfulness. They were hard years, but God provided his people both at school and in the local church to be my family when my other family lived hundreds of miles away. He met my needs time and time again.
So to all of you starting seminary for the first time or to those of you beginning your last semester or to those who just need to be reminded of God’s love, care, and faithfulness, may this thread encourage you.
It is in remembering God’s past faithfulness that engenders praise, trust, and our faithfulness to God in the present. Solo Deo Gloria!
