Thiago Silva reads the game quicker than most CBs and this is all due to his vast experience. He initially tries to look for an interception but when he sees that wasn't on, he quickly retrieves back to negate the through ball.

Thiago Silva is no mug in the air either. Physically he can match the best players out there. The best part about him is that he is a proactive defender who likes to stamp his authority against the opposition.

Look how he positionally drops a bit deep in this play to give himself 2 options:
- If the ball is played behind him then he can intercept is as he did here OR
- If it's played in front of him then he is able to close down the attacker quickly

Maintaining a high line:
Some are doubting Thiago in regards to if he will be able to maintain a high line for Frank. In this UCL campaign, Thiago played a high line with several quality oppositions. Here he intercepts (reading the play quick) to keep Leipzig boxed in.

Strength:
For someone who will be turning 36 next month, he is still at the top of his game. When it comes to 1 v 1 contest, Thiago's strength and physical attributes are still excellent.

Tight Marking:
Attackers barely get the best of him. We have seen him nullify Atlanta's attackers and here he has shut down Leipzig's striker. Look how quick he is to react in this situation. Tight marking at it's best.

Long-range passing:
We have seen how good a defender he still is. However, don't overlook his ball-playing ability either. He has Brazilian blood running through him so these things come naturally. A sublime long ball to Mbappe who's unlucky with the control.
