The best game the @ScotlandNT played recently was Israel at home. Despite losing 2 goals, Scotland were an attacking threat for the full game - something of a rarity over the past 5 years.
The key to this was Stephen Fletcher. He allowed our two wing forwards to push on immediately, expecting Fletcher to win the ball. It’s no surprise this was Forrest (RW) best game for Scotland; scoring a hat-trick.
The second goal, in particular, is an example of this. Great flick on, Christie takes a chance and runs past to collect and sets up Forrest.
Fletcher has since not appeared (first through injury, then form) for the National team and I’ve always felt we have lacked that presence up top. This is where I believe Dykes is the perfect replacement.
He will hold up. Win headers. Play neat flicks and passes to attacking wingers and will draw players to him in the box, giving others space much like Fletcher did in that Israel game.
I am biased as a Livi fan. But I genuinely believe Scotland fans will be in for a shock at how good a player he is and what he can do with better players in and around him.
