Many folks have asked if cooler water from Marco will slow #Laura down today.

Short answer: no. That cool water is below the surface (lower OHC but not much lower SSTs) and a fast-moving storm like Laura only has time to mix up the top layer of the ocean https://blog.weather.us/laura-likely-to-threaten-the-upper-texas-coastline-as-a-major-hurricane-tomorrow-night/
It also helps #Laura that the core should track just SW of that cooler eddy in the loop current and is moving almost perpendicular to the axis of cooler water.

So overall, unfortunately that pocket of lower OHC shouldn't significantly slow Laura down.
That's not to say that there will be *no* effect, just that it won't be enough to stop #Laura from becoming a major hurricane before landfall.

Perhaps once the storm moves away from that eddy tonight, it will be easier for convection to develop north of the circulation.
