The #ecprvgc20 goes to #Innsbruck
– well, we wish!
So, let’s do a virtual tour through the city instead!
Here are some crucial (or random?) facts about the city we would have loved to visit in #2020. The city’s main sight is the Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof)! @ECPR (1/9)

So, let’s do a virtual tour through the city instead!

There’s a ski jumping hill in Innsbruck, the #Bergiselschanze, designed by none other than Zaha Hadid.
The record jump went as far as 138m!
Coincidentally, this number corresponds exactly to the length of all ECPR conference papers printed out & put next to each other. (2/9)

Even though the region of Tyrol is quite conservative, Innsbruck is governed by a Green mayor, @DenGeorgWilli. In 2018, he was directly elected, also thanks to a long-term split within Innsbruck’s conservative camp, weakening the local branch of Austria's center-right ÖVP. (3/9)
Innsbruck #Kranebitten has one of the world’s coolest airports, in a valley next to high mountains (=wind & currents!). Pilots need special training to land there!
For nerds: The airport is so unique that it’s modelled in detail in the new Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Still, I hope that many of you will come to Innsbruck in an environmental-friendly way #virtuesignalling
In this case, check out the impressive (and huge!) paintings of Max Weiler at the train station. Weiler was one of the key Austrian painters of the 20th century.

The biggest national minorities in Innsbruck are Germans
and Italians
.
A famous former German inhabitant of the city was World Cup winning manager Joachim Löw, in charge of and champion with FC Tirol in 2001/02!

It seems unnecessary to tell you that the old town of Innsbruck is full of nice #bars, knowing from experience that ECPR conference participants are #not interested in visiting such places as they use all their time to conduct important #research. (7/9)
Importantly, Innsbruck has an excellent political science department. @PolSciUIBK hosts scholars such as @marcelojenny @lorehayek @gerhard_mangott Sarah Dingler ( @electsystblog) @franzeder @SennMartin @juliapermoser @MierloTrix @anatrfernandes @ThomasWalli & Ludger Helms! (8/9)
Overall, Innsbruck is astonishingly beautiful
I like it so much that I regard it as almost as great as my hometown Vienna
The bottom line: I can’t wait to return to Innsbruck for the #ECPR 2021!
