It wouldn& #39;t be the UK without winter weather in august and a transphobic hashtag trending. Doesn& #39;t matter how many self-professed & #39;free speech advocates& #39; and & #39;wymyns rights activists& #39; wrap it in the language of social justice - it& #39;s hatred against a protected category.
Ultimately an organisation 100% has the right to disassociate itself from a person because they don& #39;t like the things they say, particularly when those things said are aimed at hurting a marginalised group of people. Screaming from the rooftops doesn& #39;t change that.
If these people are so worked up about the rights of women, then why aren& #39;t they up in arms about the fact that the gender pay gap is still gaping wide, or that a rapist is in the White House, or that domestic violence charities are struggling under the weight of calls?
It& #39;s because truly they don& #39;t give a fig about the rights of women. They are spouting hate speech, throwing up straw men, misrepresenting crime statistics, inventing crises, ignoring science, redefining language, and actively going out of their way to hurt people.
Feminism isn& #39;t about hurting others. It& #39;s not about boiling down the essence of womanhood to what genitalia you have. It& #39;s not about punching down at every minority group that dares to beg for a voice. It& #39;s not about middle-class mummies in Leith or Kensington.
I& #39;ve not hashtagged this thread because last time I did, I got dogpiled by those awful people who think I deserve to be strung up for existing. Be kind, people - we& #39;ve only got one go at this, and it& #39;s better for us all if we don& #39;t punch others down, but lift each other up
