Improving views on YT: a thread

Disclaimer: I am still learning the algorithm for YouTube. I'm a small, very small YouTuber. I just want to pass along the info I know to hopefully help others! (1-)
Okay, so. YouTube is a search engine. It is owned by Google. This is important to remember when you are setting your videos up for it. The first place I would say work on is optimizing your YouTube search engine optimization (SEO). (2-)
In saying this, you should be researching before uploading. TubeBuddy is an amazing add on to help with that (not sponsored in any way, just love this add on). It gives you SO much information on how to make your SEO better. (3-)
Say you want to upload a build challenge. You can type that into the search bar and TB rates that search. If it's good, you should have that in your title, the FIRST sentence of your description, tags, and preferably in your intro since YT creates captions. (4-)
You should then search some more things related to your video, check out the rating and make sure to put them in your tags! Tags allow YT to pair similar content and you'll likely end up being recommended in end cards of other people's videos! Super helpful! (5-)
Another thing is you WANT to use almost all of your title limit with good search words. This allows you to show up on multiple searches. You should also put all those in your tags. You've seen those super long Etsy titles. Yeah, it should look like that, but make it concise. (6-)
The goal is to end up high up on the search home page so when someone types in a search you are one of the top videos. My recent video was number 5, which I was super pleased with. (7-)
YouTube likes to promote videos that people like. The first step is getting seen, with the search function. If you aren't checking your analytics, you should be! Especially the pyramid which shows click through rate and stuff. (8-)
If people aren't watching long or clicking, YouTube is less likely to promote you to the home page for people to see. Notice a steep drop off where people stop watching? Go to the video and see what happens. Is there a pattern? Long transitions? Think about removing them. (9-)
Ultimately, SEO is the first step. You want a good CTR and watch time. If your CTR isn't good, think about working on your thumbnails and title. Also, promote your stuff in your description! Leave links to other videos! Use cards in your videos! (10-)
And remember, this is a slow grind. Lots and lots of people started YT channels during this pandemic and many are back at work now so viewership is down. Use this time to really improve your SEO and you will see improvement. đź’• (11-)
This is not an exhaustive list. If anyone has other tips or tricks, feel free to share them! There are LOADS of videos on YT about this, but I have found they don't give full info. I hate gatekeeping information and want you all to do well. Much love, y'all. 🥰🥰🥰
