Played Ghosts Of Tsushima At My Friends House A Few Days Back. I Didn’t See A Single Piece Of Armor That Was Faithful To The Time Period (I Understand Why They Did This). And Felt Like Talking About Samurai Armors.
Tsushima Takes Place During The Mongol Invasions Of Japan In The 13th Century. The Game However Tries To Capture The Romantic Feeling Of 15th-16th Century Sengoku Era Japan. The Samurai Golden Age. The Armors They Wear Are Of The “Gusoku” Style And Are Like 300 Years Off.
The Orange Coat He’s Wearing Is A “Jinbaori” Worn By High Ranking Samurai Of The Sengoku Period Only. The Right Looks Like He’s Wearing Mass Produced Folding Light Armor Of Sengoku Period Non-Samurai “Ashigaru” (Light Foot Soldiers).
Early Samurai Of This Period Actually Wore What Was Called “Ō-Yoroi”. Popular Up Until The 15th Century Century. Terribly Box Shaped And Crafted Entirely Based Around Horse Archery In Mind. I Am Personally Fascinated By These Kinds Of Specialized Armor.
Ultimately I Understand Why They Did This In Game. They Wanted The Romantic Feel Of Wandering Samurai. And Nobody Is Going To Be Able To Run Around In This Mail Box Armor.
