Every time Black artists in Canada talk about the treatment & support (the lack thereof) in this city, I truly empathize but y’all are AGGY AS HELL! I need y’all to think outside of just the artist part and start thinking about the industry as a whole...
Lack of radio stations, label, & DSP representation along with the BS that comes with venues and we are chalking it up to JUST crabs in a bucket? You’re missing the glaring big picture...
When y’all walk into these places are y’all asking what their team looks like, who they consist of are there any Black folks in upper management or the C suite not just at an entry level position...or are you more worried about getting on? Because that’s half the battle...
Black music professionals across all levels (entry, mid level, upper management, and C-Suite) are just as important as the Black artists because the conversations take place in the building and are usually the ones trying to fight...
When that is lacking that’s how we end up in the mess that we are in today. Black folks on the business side are needed at all access points to further Black music/artistry...
So in conclusion, take a step back and take a look at the industry you’re in at a macro level as opposed to micro level. It’s not all about getting on a few playlists or a billboard.
