One cliché that I’m tired of is people constantly clutching their pearls because politicians are liars. You all need to understand that politicians lie because the their constituents want to be lied to. Anytime a politician speaks to a crowd, that crowd wants their ass kissed.
They want to hear about how great, moral & hard working THEY are & how all of their problems are someone else’s fault. The art of politics IS scapegoating. It’s a shell game, a replacement game. The incentives dictate to promise people the world, whether you can deliver or not.
Trump is the world heavy weight champion of politician liars. It’s not close. He’s an outlier in a world where subtle untruths are common. But he understands that his people want to be lied to. They want to hear that everything is great, that the jobs from overseas will come back
, that institutional racism is a myth.

Jimmy Carter told the truth - that many of the nation’s problems had to be solved by self reflection and self accountability. People didn’t want to hear that shit. They helped him pack his bags.
We are children who want services but not have to pay for them, we want peace but also to flex our military might, we want to have COVID evaporate w/o economic strain or sacrificing our lifestyle.

This is like the “miracle pill” where you can “eat what you want” & lose weight
and not have to exercise. This doesn’t mean the game isn’t rigged & you don’t have a reason to be pissed off but your cynicism about how “all politicians are corrupt” is a lazy way of viewing the system. If all politician are corrupt in your mind, You don’t have to do any mental
work to distinguish between politicians. It’s futile. The funny thing is we all think we’re voting for a king because we fret over what this candidate will & won’t do despite having a system that limits what a president can do without congressional support.
One side thinks Bernie is bringing free healthcare & college with the stroke of a pen & one side thinks Soviet breadlines & re-education camps are on the way.

And I’m thinking, “how the hell would Bernie pass any of this shit if he did get elected?
Hilary said Bernie “promised the moon”. THAT is the truth. Doesn’t mean it couldn’t get done. It just means it would be near impossible under the current senate makeup. The cost of not promising the moon is being too pragmatic or not inspirational. Raining on the parade.
The most honest politician is the one who is retiring and not looking for a job as a lobbyist.

When a politician accidentally tells the truth, it’s called a gaffe, and we punish them for it.

HRC meant to call them “deplorables”.
Obama was right when he said that people “cling to guns & religion”. Trump really doesn’t think that John McCain is a war hero. Romney & his ilk really believe that 47% of Americans are “dependent on the govt”.
Politicians are liars because YOU want to be lied to. Stop bitching about it.
