Here to clarify a couple things because I just got asked why I chant BLM on the TL when I am white:
• As a white woman, I know that the saying “Black Lives Matter” IS NOT saying my life doesn’t matter. It’s to fight against OVERLOOKED systemic racism and fight for the change that was basically promised to the black community YEARS ago.
• As a white woman, I don’t feel the need to say All Lives Matter because we already know they do but racists love to add a dash of white in everything they find threatening. We know all lives matter but why are you only using that as a response to BLM and not Blue Lives Matter?
• As a white woman, I notice and see my privilege and want to use it for something great. See, the difference is I’ve been pulled over many times for speeding and received warnings instead of a jail sentence or bullets in my chest. Stop saying there isn’t any privilege.
• And finally, as a white woman, I’m allowed to advocate for people who don’t feel heard. It doesn’t make me “racist toward my own race” (yes, someone said that to me) but instead brings exactly what we have been fighting for all this time: EQUALITY, JUSTICE, AND PEACE.
