1-Bored? I have a short story about the IRS with a surprise ending.
I pay more taxes than I think I owe because I know I’m a possible target.
The last few yrs I pay quarterly taxes, withholding, and still owe more at the end. Then after I pay that, I get more bills from IRS.

2-The IRS bills don’t explain what I owe for, but I just pay the because—you know, it’s the IRS.
Same routine this yr: I pay all my taxes, I get another bill. I pay that; I get another bill.
The last bill caught my eye.

3-It said the IRS had taken a “balance owed to me from 2018” and put it toward my newest bill.
“Balance owed to me”??? When/what/why?
I can't find out because the IRS online never lets me login; some flaw.

4- Calling doesn’t work; the IRS recording says they’re too busy so you can’t even hold, and hangs up.
Finally today, IRS call center let me hold. More than 2 hrs later, with help from a patient smart IRS worker, I figured out the IRS has been improperly billing me...

5-THE IRS OWES ME $8,000+
6-I asked if they would pay me penalties and interest—like they had been charging me for the money they’d said I’d owed each year.
Well, they won’t give me penalty $ but they say they might give me interest!
I let it go at that because—you know, it’s the IRS...

7-If the money ever comes, I’ll add it to the charitable donations I give for my books... the latest one is "SLANTED: How the news media taught us to love censorship and hate journalism." (Preorder today anywhere!)
8-There's a surprise ending, but I still don't know the moral of the story. What do you think it is?
