Okay, it’s time to talk about this jump and how Jimin always makes something challenging look easy.

One of the most common jumps in ballet is called a temps levé. It’s characterized by a hop on one foot while the other leg is extended behind.
Since the entry into a temps levé is a hop, that means you are only jumping off one foot. Also, you have half the jumping strength than you would with both legs. To get the most jumping strength out of that front leg, typically it is stretched and extended as well.
Because to get the maximum height out of your jumps, it’s best to push off from a plié (bent legs), push through the entire foot and launch yourself up on stretched legs. You’re able to use every muscle that way and get maximum force.
But when you get fancier with your jumps and leg positions in the air, it gets a lot more difficult. Especially when you try to bend the leg you’re hopping on instead of extending it. You have barely pushed off the foot and you immediately have to tuck it. #JIMIN @BTS_twt
However, this is where male dancers excel. Due to their larger leg muscles, they are able to launch themselves into the air much higher than female dancers. And they do all sorts of crazy stuff once they’re up there.
As we all know, Jimin can achieve some impressive height when he jumps. With his light weight and strong leg muscles, his feet are practically springboards. And he’s no stranger to bending that front leg immediately after take off. #JIMIN @BTS_twt
Taking a running start or doing a small hop or gallop before your big jump can give you a lot of momentum to help make your jump bigger and let you sneak in even more impressive feats. #JIMIN @BTS_twt
But as you might notice from this jump, Jimin does it with virtually no take off. Instead he uses his back leg, deep in plié, to help push onto the front leg before he jumps while also using his arms to generate momentum. #JIMIN @BTS_twt
And as always, he’s able to create that perfectly still moment in the air where he looks like he’s floating and weightless and this was no effort at all for him. What else can we expect from our flying angel? #JIMIN @BTS_twt
