I’m currently at the intersection of 72nd and Dodge in Omaha, NE where protestors have gathered for a rally following the shooting of #JacobBlake in Kenosha, WI - this is the first of two actions planned for tonight
There is a solid group of around 50 here - with more showing up. Pretty heavy police presence nearby
Chants of “No Justice No Peace!”
Out here with @chrisakelley who’s sending me shots and he takes them, which is new and fun
Crowd keeps growing - I see some familiar faces from the Zachary Bearheels memorial march earlier this summer. There is solidarity in the fight against police brutality here
Indigenous comrades are always a welcome sight at these actions
The group here is growing still
Looks cops have staged in parking lots at every corner of the intersection
Ooo fun, police helicopter overhead as well
Crowd growing still - 60-75 here now. Folks passing out water and snacks - it is hot as hell tonight
Chants of “If we don’t get it, shut it down!” From the crowd now
We’ve got a pretty diverse crowd tonight, multiracial and multigenerational
A great shot of @WeAreProBLAC organizer Bear Alexander
Signs reading “FUCK YOUR COMFORT, JUSTICE FOR JACOB BLAKE” and “WE STAND WITH KENOSHA” are in the crowd
Indigenous comrades now starting to sing prayers here on this side of the intersection
Posted with permission
Indigenous comrades are still singing - and folks are listening and standing quietly
More from @vchrisakelley
“Say his name! Jacob Blake!”
Looking like about 100-110 here now. We have about an hour before the second event is scheduled to start downtown in protestor-dubbed “Liberation Square” at 11th and Howard
Some more great pix of signs
“Show me what community looks like! This is what community looks like!” - roughly still 100 here
The signs out here kick ass, honestly. Thanks for improving the quality of my photo coverage, @chrisakelley
We’ve got folks occupying every corner of this intersection now - probably around 125 or so
Folks will likely start moving to their secondary location here within the next half hour. Things are fairly calm at this rally
Chants of “When Black lives are under attack, what do we do?” “STAND UP FIGHT BACK”
Folks are about to pack up and head to the secondary location - we’re on the move and will be back with coverage there around 8pm
A parting shot here
Getting word that folks are now dispersing and starting to head downtown. Stayed tuned to this thread as I have updated
