it's always a little telling when libertarians present their opposition to 'pure democracy' and broad, easy voting access as concern for 'the tyranny of the majority,' and specifically invoke the Jim Crow or antebellum South
these places and times of course were not democratic and the regimes that dominated them were not elected in any meaningfully libertarian sense; they were dominated by an elite class that merely pretended to democracy...
and, when faced with the broader enfranchisement of blacks, lost races, had policies overturned, and only maintained the "majority's preferences" through violent, forcible repression and the revocation of voting rights
