As a meat scientist, this type of fear-based marketing and labeling (from both sides) is so upsetting to see and is incredibly misleading to consumers.

The average person will look at a list like this and automatically assume the product is unhealthy.

Let me break it down. https://twitter.com/ImpossibleFoods/status/1297554204945309696
By law, "Ground Beef" cannot contain any additives such as water, phosphates, binders, or extenders with the exception of seasonings - per USDA Food Safety and Inspection Services (FSIS).

Ground beef you purchase at grocery stores contain one ingredient, beef.
Let's take a look at the ingredient list:

Water - We all know what that is

Triglycerides - This lists fatty acids, both saturated and unsaturated. About 90% listed can also be found in plant products
Protein - This lists amino acids - both essential and non-essential, vitamins, and minerals. Nothing scary about protein, vitamins, and minerals.

Flavors - This lists naturally occurring chemicals that can be found in beef, apples, nuts, avocados, tomatoes, lavender, peaches,
peanuts, peas, buckwheat, the list goes on.

It also lists some proteins involved with the contraction and relaxation of muscle (myosin).

Nothing scary going on there.
Here is a picture of a banana with a list of its ingredients presented in the same form as the ground beef picture quoted above.

If you look closely, you can see they share several chemical ingredients.

Chemical names do NOT equate to food health/safety.
