Liverpool are really good. Jurgen Klopp is incredibly special. But it's a bit demoralising seeing other teams buy their way out of a funk in a year when it took us 4 years of building for success to arrive.
Obviously there's no guarantee it'll pay off for Chelsea but buying really good players for huge fees gives you a distinct advantage.
If the roles were reversed we couldn't do this. Not without selling prized assets. We're the Champions and we can't do it now.
I'm not suggesting Klopp is doing all this in spite of the ownership. But he's definitely punching above his weight. Do you think some of these lads would be Liverpool players if Klopp wasn't in charge? That's the challenge.
I don't think they would be. So how does Liverpool compete with Chelsea and City beyond Jurgen Klopp? What's being put in place to allow us to do this?
I'm enjoying everything we are right now. The best times we've had in decades. Long may it continue. But there's a bigger picture and I'm curious as to how the club plan to compete in the long term.
