Henrico's Board of Supervisors is meeting at this hour to discuss the potential formation of a civilian review board for the division of police. Henrico Senior Assistant Attorney Lee Ann Anderson is providing background at the moment about the division's Internal Affairs unit.
Responding to a question from Varina District Tyrone Nelson, Anderson says that Internal Affairs investigations may be kept private under the Freedom of Information Act.
Citizens who make complaints about officers will receive a final letter from Internal Affairs at the conclusion of any investigation that occurs, Anderson says, but any discipline (if imposed) is not communicated.
Tuckahoe District Supervisor Pat O'Bannon asks what level of recourse a citizen has if a claim does not result in discipline; Anderson says that at that point, a call or email to a supervisor, the county manager or the chief of police are options.
