So this setting is known arc "the arcane earth" or Arcterra and its got moderately advanced technology. I created it with a Gaslamp fantasy in mind. Not quite turn of the century steampunk but drawing on elements of it for sure.

So lets start with the creation myth. Basically when a primordial creation goddess and a Nature goddess escape their planar system and decide to create their own they throw together a roughshod planar system that follows old models but poorly.

Eventually other disenfranchised gods find their way to this new system for one reason or another and some have a hand in thr creation of races, places, and in many a cases just in general messed around and found out.

The first race to come to sapience and thusly get granted magic were people.
The goddess of nature saw them and was like "shit they're dying i gotta" and so the oldest druids happened.

Like most people who have never had magic would, they go a little wild with it

Anyway the goddess of Nature who gave them this power that they then abused turned the worse of the abusers into dryads and connected their life force directly to the nature they were fucking up with HER magic. It was pretty Epic of her.
