THREAD / Seeing as today, @RTERadio1 offered us a bit of a throwback by bringing back the #TodayPK theme on the new #TodayCB @TodayRadioRTE - I thought I'd be super geeky and look back at some great jingles and theme songs from RTĂ Radio 1
Starting off with probably the most iconic- it's Tico's Tune. A song many of us would be more familiar with as the theme to "The Gay Byrne Show" (formerly "The Gay Byrne Hour"). It later was chosen as the theme to Sky One's "Moone Boy"
When Gaybo left daily radio in 1999, the late Marian Finucane was moved from Liveline to her the 9am slot. The original version of the theme used until her death earlier this year was a gorgeous & classy tune IMO.
As the morning broadcasts started each day on @RTERadio1, this is was the jingle which would be heard - O'Donnell Abu (not sure if it's still played today?)

When news came to breakfast with @morningireland in 1984, so too did that amazing voice of David Hanley ending each show with a gravely "Good Morning".

The more up-to-date @morningireland opening jingle is a cheerier but calm affair regardless and frankly, is a pleasure to wake up each day. Even if the headlines aren't...
This familiar jingle has had a few uses over the years. The theme to "News At One", @thisweekrte as well as being used on news bulletins before the current jingle came into existence. (Not sure about the years..again, would love a 100% clean version of this!)
This might need correction, but this was for a long time, the opening jingle to The Ronan Collins Hour, every day at midday before the seamless handover into the Angelus started. A track by the Les Reed Orchestra called "Imogene"
A theme tune which hasn't really changed since it first came to air, bar small updates is that of #Liveline with @joeliveline (formerly Marian Finuance). You'd hear cuts of this in the promos for the show. The opening we hear starts at 1:39
And finally, the theme which brought us all here. Originally used for Today with Pat Kenny until Sean O'Rourke took over in 2013, with a similar but more electronic sounding version.
