I had people DM me to ask if I’d marry them so I said no. He proceeded to inbox me on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and filled out my contact form on my website to request I give him the time of day anyway. #SurvivingMT

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told that I am automatically not worth listening to because I wasn’t born to Muslim parents. #SurvivingMT

And mind you, I wrote the sushi article like three or four years ago and I -STILL- get threats and ugly DMs about it that I don’t even share because I’m scared of triggering other people who have experienced sexual assault and intimidation before. #SurvivingMT

Once my mentions blew up for like three days because desi MT assumed I was being an idiot because I use subhanallah for good and bad things and I’m white #SurvivingMT

Once a guy from @twitter made a fake female profile, added me on FB, found pictures of my high school prom and shared them with his friends saying I was whoring in a night club.

I WAS AT PROM. #SurvivingMT

There are people who dm me things like “Sister, I saw you retweeted an account with goddess in the title. This is shirk!!!” And I had to explain that I can’t & won’t micromanage every twitter handle I ever see if the actual tweet isn’t shirky. #SurvivingMT

One time I was told I have depression because I am a vegetarian. That one was just funny. #SurvivingMT

Once a brother said he zoomed in on my eyes and thought they were pretty so I needed to cover them too. When I said no, he went on and on about how I was clearly okay with tabrooj and how much of a munafiq I must be. #SurvivingMT

I could go on, but I don’t want to bore y’all.

In the end, I always remind myself that literally anybody can get an internet connection and thankfully we worship a compassionate God and not loser randos from Twitter.
