Kenosha, like most cities in Wisconsin, is by definition a sundown town

There is no city to be safely Black in Wisconsin. Folks in these communities have known this for a long time

I deadass do not want to see takes on all this shit from people who aren’t from Wisconsin. If you didn’t grow up Black here you don’t understand the nuances of everything happening

My grandparents came to Milwaukee during the great migration, both my parents worked local news here when I grew up AND I was at the Dontre Hamilton protest when I was 16 that Luke Reitruoc talked shit about on Facebook in the post thats been going around.

I’m so weary about national attention being placed on Black folks in Wisconsin like this. Y’all wanna paint these people as criminals for setting fires when MOST NIGGAS CANT EVEN VOTE THERE! The INJUSTICE

Black people are not represented within the Wisconsin state legislature and y’all want to tell these communities that voting is harm reduction??? THEY CANT VOTE! How DARE you try to tell people already stripped of their rights to turn to this broken system to save them.

I grew up and witnessed cops shoot niggas by my church. I grew up and watched the state strip my teachers of their collective bargaining rights. I saw my parents get purged from voter registrations time and time again. Wisconsin cannot be reformed.

I’m sharing these things because I’m tired of y’all viewing Wisconsin in statistics. You NEED to listen to those of us who have experienced this violence first hand, who have grown up and been shaped by this harm.

Wisconsin implemented voter id laws then proceeded to close DMVs in Milwaukee, making it nearly impossible for residents to get IDs needed to vote because public transit doesn’t go to the suburbs! Someone in Milwaukee cannot get to the Saukville DMV on their own.
