Now that Blaseball is off of siesta I want to compare participating in the cultural event of Blaseball to another week long cultural event that doesn't pause and has a robust and ever evolving community: Desert Bus for Hope.
DB is a week long charity stream where people play Desert Bus for as long as they raise money. The game consists of driving between Tuscon AZ and Las Vegas NV in a bus that travels 45mph in real time. The fun of Desert Bus is in just about everything but the actual bus.
The charity was originally started by the professionally funny comedy group Loading Ready Run. To enliven the experience the drivers and crew fill the time. They auction off prizes, perform skits, sing songs, tell jokes (horse and otherwise) and stories. It is a grand time.
Every year the run and the community generate memes and in-jokes, some of which stick around to be added to the poster and the lore. Things are always happening (even in Zeta) and you don't want to miss any of it.
The danger is that, like Blaseball, for the more or less week of Desert Bus it. doesn't. stop. But life outside of the cultural event keeps happening. It is easy to get caught up in the fun and community and sort of slip away from... everything else.
The first year I watched DB I was in a place (for the worse) where I had little responsibility. I could let my sleep schedule meander unhealthily.
Now I have schedules to keep, and things that must be done. I have grudgingly learned to pull myself away and set times to watch.

And sure the moral of this thread is "Be a responsible adult", that's hard sometimes. Fun things are easy to get lost in especially when 1. there is a community that loves the fun thing along with you and 2. all of the not fun things are even less fun than normal.
As Blaseball continues to play out in the immaterial plane remember to keep up with the material one as well. Participate in the cultural event of Blaseball, but do so responsibly.
The commissioner is doing a great job.
(I will /try/ to heed my own advice in the coming weeks)
