Sorry for the break in jokes and COVID analysis but this is just heartbreaking. This wing of Idahoans hijacking Idaho’s safety because they are Facebook experts on health is not the Idaho Way. It’s their way. Not Idaho’s Way.

We have long time republicans in this state decrying the younger wing of that Republican Party. That party has held a super majority in this state for decades. They somehow decry government and its failures despite being the only ones in charge.

They come into this special session decrying “tyranny” as if Democrats or libertarians were running the show before them. They act like some other enemy has killed education, morality, and decency in this state despite being management.

They’ve created a boogie man out of McLean even though she’s the mayor of one city in Idaho. They blame her for liberal policies even though they RUN THE SHOW STATEWIDE. She’s a danger to what Idaho is to them despite—and we cannot say this enough—holding all the power in Idaho.

Now here they are making legislation while Raucous protestors with no regard to safety during a pandemic in the gallery cheer as super fans with extreme home field advantage acting as though they’re a damn underdog in the fight for liberty and freedom in Idaho.

They hold all the cards, they hold all the power for legislation, their only debate rests in the shade of red in which they want legislation to pass, and they’re flat out bullying responsible press and democratic lawmakers as they exaggerate the opposing party’s power.

They politick their constituents into the idea that they’re the oppressed minority in this state when they’re actually the Harlem Globetrotters boat racing Washington Generals.

Idahoans just want to be safe and know their kids are going to be safe. If they have that, they’ll go back to school, go back to work, return to the church pews. They have tricked their constituents into thinking this is some magical war for Idaho’s soul. It’s not.

It’s about safety. If these financial conservatives gave a damn about the economy, this entire session would be 100% about increasing testing, increasing tracing efforts, and providing bailout funds for educators and schools.

But that doesn’t make an enemy. A virus doesn’t make a great political opponent. It doesn’t drive donations to your campaign nor stir anger toward a political opponent.

So instead it’s BS legislation against people who are oppressing others in the name of safety. They’re the enemy. They aren’t interested in Idaho. They’re interested in conspiracies, ignorance, and snake oil.

Now here’s an adorable video of my daughter going down a slip and slide for the first time. We want our kids to be safe. I want her to be safe and the people she comes in contact with at her childcare to be safe. I want her grandparents to be safe. That’s what is most important.
